There are two broad categories of colleges/universities in the United States. The first is state-managed or public/national universities. The fees here are lower and the admission more competitive. Deadline & Intakes:- There are two intakes- fall (August) and Spring (January)
Fall is the major intake as all the university options are open for admissions unlike spring when certain choices are not available.
Application Deadline:- The deadline for submitting the application varies from university to university and course. However, it is generally from October to March for Fall intake and for spring intake deadline is 15 October.
Cost of Studying:- The cost of education in the USA varies between the states and the institutions.
Average tuition fees per year range from $15,000 to $16,000 (Private Institutions) and $10,000 to $20,000 (State Institutions)
• Requirement for an undergraduate degree are a High School / 12th standard passing certificate, TOEFL examination and SAT – 1 entrance examination. Ivy League/top school require an additional entrance examination called the SAT – 2.
• An understand / Bachelors degree in the United State is for a 4 year duration (unlike 3 years in India)
The requirements for a graduate / Master Degree are 4 year of undergraduate study. However, few selected colleges do admit India students with a 12 + 3 years of study (mostly for MBA programs and very few MS programs). Therefore, in general a master’s course in U.S. would require a B.COM (or related Bachelors degree) plus at least 1 year of the M.COM/equivalent. A science student would required at least the first year of the MSc; while an arts student will required at least the first year of the M.A. degree. GMAT is required for business student were as GRE is required for science, engineering and top arts programs. TOEFL is again a must for all students.
